About this course

5-Week Women’s Beginner Aikido Course

Starting Monday 14 September 2026

Curious about self-defence but not sure where to start? This welcoming, women-only Aikido course is designed especially for beginners — no experience needed.

Over five weeks, you’ll learn simple, effective techniques that focus on balance, awareness and staying calm under pressure. Aikido is a non-aggressive martial art that helps you learn to protect yourself without relying on strength or force.

This course is for you if you:

  • Want to feel safer and more confident in everyday situations
  • Are looking for a gentle, supportive introduction to martial arts
  • Feel unsure or intimidated by mixed classes
  • Want to improve your coordination, posture and body awareness

Each session is taught in a relaxed, encouraging environment where you can learn at your own pace, ask questions and build confidence week by week.

What happens after?

By the end of the course, you’ll have a solid foundation in Aikido. From there, you can continue with the women’s class or join the regular class — whatever feels right for you.

Spaces are limited to keep the group comfortable and personal.

What Our Students Say

A Welcoming Place to Learn

Aikido Shoshinkan is absolutely fantastic! I have previously trained in other martial arts and I can honestly say that this is one of the most fascinating and insightful styles.

Aikido Shoshinkan as a club is very friendly and welcoming and there is a real sense of community and integration between beginners, graded students and instructors alike. All the students are always ready and willing to help each other improve, to learn from one another and to test new ideas.

Sensei Tad has a brilliant teaching style and is very knowledgeable, friendly, approachable and patient, which is exactly what you need when starting out at a new club.

The fact there are several training sessions a week is great, as this provides even more opportunities to learn and improve. There are also regular training seminars from various instructors from around the world which are not only helpful but also very inspiring!

I think the five star rating says it all!!!

Lucy

Fantastic dojo with inclusive leadership. I was instantly welcomed by all, with no previous experience of the martial art.

Sensei Tad’s instruction is engaging, informative and world class — an incredible environment to develop in Yoshinkan Aikido.

Jennifer

I discovered Aikido through a six week beginners class. A year on, I’m hooked.

A great dojo, with friendly members and a terrific Sensei. It’s improving my fitness, my flexibility and my confidence, and I’ve made new friends.

What more could you ask?
